2005년 전세계 분석생명과학 장비 중Lab automation 장비분야의 시장크기는?
2.1 billion $를 넘게 보고 있다. 이 시장을 크게 Microplate reader (흔히 multiplate reader, ELISA reader라고도 한다), Liquid handling systems, robotics, Laboratory Information management system (LIMS)로 나눌수 있다.
 2006년 전체시장은 7.2% 성장할 것으로 예상했으며, 주로 proteomics 연구, drug discovery, drug screening application으로 인하여 증가할것으로 생각하였다.
특히나, microplate reader는 7.7%정도로 예상했는데, 이 분야는 labautomation part에서 가장 시장이 크다. 크게 standalone device와 robotic system이 갖춘 기기로 나눌 수 있다. 요즘 flurescence를 포함한 기술이 매우 발달하고 있다.
이 시장의 선두주자는 바로 PerkingElmer와 Molecular Device이다.
